The main research themes of this laboratory are “structure control of organic thin films with nanoscale thickness and expression of their functions,” while searching for functional organic molecules based on quantum chemical calculations, achieving both nanostructure control and thin-film fabrication, and creating new optical and electronic functions based on new principles. In particular, we aim to systematize the free control of the electric dipole moment (dipole) of molecules and its functions (sensors, energy creation, etc.), and the effects of interfacial polarization fields on neighboring materials, in order to establish an academic foundation for “molecular dipole engineering”. We are also engaged in a wide range of research, from the development of practical technologies for the construction of a recycling-oriented society to the exploration of basic principles, and are conducting research on environmental mimetics and complex systems science using liquid crystal convection. By introducing these new concepts and new materials, we are breaking through the limitations of existing technologies and challenging research toward the next generation of molecular scale science.
